A New Approach to Technology Commercialization
Rolla, Mo. -- Missouri S&T's Office of Technology Transfer and Economic Development (TTED) continues to make progress using its new approach to technology commercialization, which it calls Technology Scoping and Venture Packaging (TSVP). This approach is rooted in the jobs-to-be-done (JTBD) framework and Steve Blank’s customer development process and heavily influenced by the outcome-driven innovation (ODI) methodology advocated by Anthony Ulwick of Strategyn, LLC.
"Our approach to technology commercialization is designed to address issues often encountered when trying to commercialize university technologies as well as challenges faced when conducting customer discovery interviews as part of the customer development methodology advocated by Steve Blank," says Malcolm Townes, associate director for technology transfer and economic development.
TTED believes that Technology Scoping and Venture Packaging will significantly improve its ability to efficiently perform customer discovery to guide the development of the technology, quickly determine the best path to product/market fit, and successfully translate technologies (i.e., solutions) into commercial opportunities.
